Qualifications required:
A Master’s Degree in Social Sciences or related disciplines.
Professional experience required:
• Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant working experience. • Seven (7) years in assessing social compliance of infrastructure projects, including Environmental Social Impact Assessments (ESIA). • Experience in delivering good international industry practice with respect to Environment, Social, Health and Safety (ESHS), including on gender-based violence (GBV), Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), Sexual Harassment (SH), and cultural heritage among other social aspects. • Must be an accredited environmental practitioner and demonstrate familiarity with World Bank environmental and social safeguards policies.

NIRAS is currently looking for a Social Specialist for the consultancy opportunity to (re-)develop a hydrological information management system capable of generating information and products necessary for decision making during flood and drought risk preparedness and management, and early warning, and early action in South Sudan. The aim is to improve the climate resilient water resources management and enhance resilience to floods in selected river basins in South Sudan through institutional strengthening, water resources planning and improvement of flood protection infrastructure and services as well as by enhancing the knowledge management system by strengthening the water information management system.
The scope of services is divided into three phases:
- Phase 1: Optimization and updating of hydrometric network.
- Phase 2: Revamping of the Water Information Management System including harmonization of the hydrometric Data Management System.
- Phase 3: Capacity Development.
