Head of Project (m/f) – focus: WASH (Water Supply and Solid Waste Facilities) in Dohuk, Iraq

The position is to be filled as soon as possible with an initial contract duration of 18 months. Employment location will be Dohuk, Iraq. Duty trips will be required on regular basis to Nineveh.

Job objectives and tasks

As Head of Project (m/f) WASH you will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of the water supply activities and solid waste activities of Welthungerhilfe in the project region according to the prescribed content, organisational, temporal and financial framework.

Responsibilities include:

  • Represent Welthungerhilfe and coordinate the project concept and planned project activities with stakeholders such as partner organizations in the WASH cluster and local decision makers and other aid agencies and development organisations operating in the project area

  • implementation of water supply activities and solid waste projects

  • supervise and monitor the technical project implementation

  • support the recruitment and management of national staff

  • draft reporting towards donors

  • development of new WASH related projects

As a qualified applicant, you possess:

  • a university/university of applied sciences degree in civil engineering, water management or a comparable specialised qualification suitable to the position

  • several years of project and leadership experience in the field of water supply activities and solid waste for international (aid) organisations, preferably in the region, as well as very good analytical skills for evaluating the humanitarian and security-related situation

  • a high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions

  • coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure

  • co-operation and team skills

  • very good oral and written command of English and German; command of Arabic, Kurdish
