Responsibilities:
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be expected to support the mission of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Louisiana Watershed Flood Center (LWFC, https://floodcenter.louisiana.edu/) and the Department of Civil Engineering. This position reports to Dr. Emad Habib. The roles and responsibilities of the successful candidate include: executing exiting research projects, production of technical papers, reports and presentations, participation in writing proposals to generate external funding, and co-supervision of graduate students. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be expected to perform technical work in areas such as hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood prediction and forecasting, hydrometeorological analysis, design of monitoring networks, and GIS analysis.
Qualifications:
PhD degree in hydrology and water resources engineering, or related fields. Skills and research expertise are desired in areas such as hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood prediction and forecasting, geo-spatial analysis, design of hydrologic mentoring networks, and precipitation and flood frequency analysis. Strong scientific programming skills and use of open-source tools are highly desired. Experiences in the use of community-based models such as WRF-Hydro, the National Water Model, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and other open-source modeling systems are highly desired. The applicant should show strong abilities in scientific programming using multiple platforms and open-source environments. The position also requires ability to publish scientific papers and participate in development of research proposals. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated professional with sound judgement, excellent interpersonal skills, and the flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.
