Gavia Environmental Ltd (Gavia), an established and dynamic Environmental Consultancy, is looking to appoint an experienced and highly organised Technical Director (Hydrology & Peatland) to join the Gavia Environmental Water Environment team, based within the Glasgow office.

The Role
The responsibilities of the role would include:
- Provision of technical expertise to support and expand our hydrology and peat services. Existing areas where expertise would be required would include:
- Peatland restoration, including survey, feasibility studies, design, adherence to the Peatland Code, working under the Peatland ACTION framework, validation support, technical specifications, on site management and supervision of restoration works and long term monitoring.
- Hydrology, hydrogeology and soils EIAR chapters and supporting appendices to typically include private water supply risk assessments, GWDTE assessments, peat management plans, peat landslide and hazard risk assessments and watercourse crossing assessments.
- Preconstruction hydrological constraints surveys and construction advice to include pollution prevention plans, temporary drainage design, water quality monitoring, CAR licence application and design advice.
- Provision of expert witness and technical responses to a broad range of water environment matters including planning disputes, responding to and addressing complex stakeholder objections, flood risk issues and technical queries (TQs) on construction projects.
- Less essential but desirable would be experience in undertaking flood risk assessments, drainage strategies, hydromorphology, environmental engineering, water resource management and detailed engineering design.
- Business development to include identifying and developing new opportunities, preparing and reviewing proposals, and developing new business through new and existing clients. Expansion of Gavia’s profile and market share through enhancing technical delivery and successful business development activities.
- Technical direction of all hydrology and peat project workload, to include development and input to methodologies, provision of staff training and mentoring, effective delegation of work and acting as a technical reviewer and approver to ensure deliverables achieve client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
- Collaboration with other Gavia Team Leads, Technical Directors and Senior Management to develop sales strategies, identify crossover opportunities and contribute to company business plans. Contribution to Gavia’s marketing activities such as marketing campaigns and materials, press releases, snippets for social media and attendance at suitable conferences.
- Ensuring compliance with Gavia’s Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental policies and procedures and ISO Integrated Management System.
- Ability to lead and work as part of a team, demonstrating a drive and commitment to meet targets whilst motivating others to achieve their best results.
Essential:
- First degree in Hydrology, Engineering or similar subject.
- Sufficient experience within a role with similar responsibilities, or evidence of working towards these responsibilities.
- Full valid drivers’ licence.
Desirable
- Master’s degree in Hydrology, Soil Science or similar subject.
- Chartered member of an appropriate professional body.
- Located within Central Scotland.
