Relationships between climate change and the self-depuration potential of water bodies via EURAXESS

Universita' degli Studi di Torino

Torino, Italy 🇮🇹

Offer Description

The research aims to study photochemical reactions occurring in the natural environment and their effects on the transformation of emerging pollutants by direct and indirect photolysis. The work involves laboratory experiments and modelling activities. Irradiation experiments will be carried out by using lamps and monitoring the time trends of the relevant compounds by liquid chromatography, to derive reaction rate constants and quantum yields. Further experiments will aim at the identification of transformation by-products. Modelling will address phototransformation kinetics of pollutants in natural surface waters, with particular interest in regional-type scenarios for which water chemistry data are available. The effects of climate change on water chemistry, hydrology and, consequently, photochemical processes will be addressed.
