A Research Technician 2 position is available immediately in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering (FABE) in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University (OSU).
We seek to hire a motivated individual to support our research team focused on hydrology, soil, and water quality research in Ohio’s agricultural and urban landscapes. This position will primarily support the collection and analysis of water quality samples and environmental data under guidance from senior faculty and staff. The primary responsibility will be to assist in laboratory preparation of water quality samples for a variety of parameters derived from laboratory methods and instrumentation. The individual will conduct fieldwork, primarily sample collection and site develop/maintenance. Additional activities will include data analysis, laboratory maintenance tasks, and supporting ongoing research efforts as needed. The position will be located on the Columbus campus. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Jay Martin, Professor in Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering. The position will be part of a larger “water-focused” team of senior faculty, staff, and students that work within FABE.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in sample preparation, primarily filtering and digesting water quality samples for nutrient analysis
- Prepare chemical reagents
- Operate analytical instruments under direction by the laboratory coordinator
- Contribute to sample collection and site develop/maintenance during field work
- Maintain laboratory function through cleaning, organization, and preparation of laboratory supplies
- Aid in data analysis with faculty guidance
- Leads, conducts or assists with basic or applied research
- Communicates task completion and any arising issues with supervisors
- Coordinates with supervisors for task allocation to maximize time efficiency
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with benchtop chemistry and laboratory methods
- Experience with field work and water sampling
- Practical knowledge of Ohio water quantity and quality issues
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
