Post Masters Research Associate (Watershed Hydrologist)
The candidate for this position will develop, evaluate and apply models to investigate the responses of hydrological regimes, thermal regimes, and water quality (including sediment and nutrients) to changing climate, extreme hydrometeorological events, and forest management at the watershed scale. This position will heavily involve climate data processing, hydrological/water quality model set-up, calibration, sensitivity analyses and uncertainty quantification, data analysis and visualization in a high performance computing environment. Additionally, the successful candidate should possess appropriate analytic, task management, and communication skills (both oral and written) to clearly articulate the research objectives and outcomes, and contribute to project documentation and meet reporting requirements.
The candidate must have (1) experience in one or more spatially-distributed, physics-based watershed hydrological models (e.g., DHSVM, PRMS, SWAT, or equivalent); (2) strong skills in data analysis using one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Matlab, R or equivalent; (3) strong skills in data visualization using ArcGIS and visualization of complex simulation results; and (4) excellent written and oral communication skills.
Candidates that demonstrate any or all of the following are preferred: (1) fluency with the Linux operating system, high-performance computing environments, and shell scripting; (3) experience with water quality modeling using DHSVM, SWAT, CE-QUAL-W2, or equivalent.
Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.
Candidates must have received a master degree in hydrology, water resources engineering, or closely related field.
