The Water Trust empowers  rural communities in Uganda to reduce preventable death and debilitating disease by enabling access to safe water and a healthy, clean environment. Since 2008, The Water Trust has partnered with more than 500 communities in Masindi and Kiryandongo, benefitting more than 300,000 people. The Water Trust aims to increase the scale of its operations and pioneer new approaches to increasing the impact and sustainability of water, sanitation, and hygiene programs.

The Water Trust seeks a consultancy to provide four weeks of group-level and individual-level training and support to staff on the topics of:

  • WASH behavior change
  • Using data to monitor and support behavior change
  • Roles and responsibilities of program positions in behavior change promotion
  • Managing and communicating about behavior change programs internally
  • Leadership, values, and team building

We expect The Water Trust and the consultancy to provide content inputs into the trainings and co-develop the trainings to meet the organization's objectives. The trainees will have had significant experience doing behavior change promotion, and the aim is to reinforce key principles and fundamentals, and ensure that practices and routines regarding the use of data, problem-solving difficult households or communities, self-management, and communication are optimized for behavior change support.

We anticipate that this will consist of 22 work days (including two preparation days) with one lead consultant, 8 work days with a second supporting consultant to support group-training activities. Group trainings will include 10-20 staff members. Outside of the 8 group-training days, the lead consultants’ 10 days will be dedicated to one-on-one followup with staff to help them apply the lessons learned and troubleshoot as the staff prepare their work plans for 2021 and review the current status of their active projects. We expect the work will take place Dec 7 - Dec 18th and January 7-21st. We expect in each session there will be 4 days of group training followed by 6 days of followup support.  We expect the training will be live in Masindi, Uganda with some travel to Kiryandongo, Uganda, though portions may be virtual by mutual agreement.

Expertise required:

  • Training development
  • WASH Behavior Change
  • M&E
  • Organizational development and change management
  • Management and communication including stress and context  management
  • Team building and conflict resolution
