Junior Professor (W1, tenure track) in Remote Sensing of Natural Hazards

This is a junior professorship appointment with a tenure track career path towards a W2 professorship. The position is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German federal and state governments. We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of Remote Sensing of Natural Hazards. The starting date is at the earliest possible date.The focus of research will be on remote sensing for geological hazard research (e.g. earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, volcanic hazards). Key areas can be the analysis of Earth surface changes using methods of high-resolution digital topography (LIDAR), the combination with spatial and numerical models, or deformation detection/quantification with radar interferometry (inSAR), all based on a solid geoscientific understanding. Special value is placed on cooperation within the faculty, as well as with other faculties and in the profile areas of the RWTH and partners in the Geoverbund ABC/J. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop an independent and internationally visible profile and attract external research funds. The professorship is to participate in teaching in German and English language in existing programmes (Applied Geosciences, Georesource Management, Engineering Geohazards), specifically also in field courses, as well as to actively develop future courses and content. A contribution to academic self-administration is anticipated.

You should have a completed university degree and a special aptitude for scientific work which is generally verified by means of an outstanding doctorate. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within 5 years.
