Portfolio Leader - Managing Land & Water

This role is leading one of Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research's portfolios of research and to determine both areas of strategic focus and priority partnerships. 

About the opportunity

The Portfolio Leader will be responsible for leading one of Manaaki Whenua-Landcare Research's portfolios of research.  The Portfolio will include current research on Soil and Ecosystem Health, Erosion Processes & Management and Integrated Land and Water Management. The Portfolio Leader will drive new opportunities in integrated land and water research including multifunctional landscapes and in the incorporation & consideration of matauranga māori knowledge in association with the Rangahau mo te kaitaiki research priority area. The Portfolio leader will drive new revenue opportunities across central and local government, industry and through iwi partnerships.

This is a full time, open term position with hours split across Portfolio Leadership (0.8 FTE) and Research (0.2 FTE). The Portfolio Leader will report to the General Manager Science and Knowledge Translation and will be based at one of our sites hosting related research.

About you

You will be PhD qualified, a researcher with a national/international reputation in a related area and capable of providing leadership in a related research area. You will have proven experience at leading a significant piece of science, over a protracted period of time, with a significant number of collaborating researchers. Ideally you will be a flexible, pragmatic, self-starter, with business acumen, effective brokering abilities along with an understanding of the needs of stakeholders and the importance of delivering on expectations. 

A willingness to travel internationally and throughout New Zealand would be essential to the position.
