Responsibilities

The working title for this position is Techniques and Development Hydrologist. As a Techniques and Development Hydrologist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Lead the Water Prediction Operations Division (WPOD) efforts to identify develop, and test datasets and water resources intelligence provided from the National Weather Center (NWC) to regional, local outlets to support the Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS) and National Weather Service (NWS).
  • Provide day-to-day scientific oversight of WPOD operations, including providing advice and expertise to operational WPOD forecasters and Physical Scientists on technical questions.
  • Lead Hydrologic Services Program support activities for the WPOD, including developing, modifying, and utilizing applicable state-of-the science computer hardware and software components in the preparation of studies of hydrological events and problems.
  • Oversee or conduct the hydrology-specific training of Hydrologists and Physical Scientists on the operational forecast services and associated tools employed in the WPOD.
