We are seeking an experienced and qualified water quality scientist to work alongside our science and innovation team to implement and lead Horizons’ water quality monitoring and research programme. Beyond the usual state of the environment monitoring and reporting, you will be contributing to cutting-edge regional and national research programmes to better understand our Region’s freshwater resources.
Our science programme is strongly linked with national research programmes and the information gathered is used to inform responses to water quality and quantity issues.
This 12 month fixed term position provides an excellent opportunity for someone with expertise in freshwater chemistry or natural resource management to gain experience in the local government sector, while our permanent senior scientist is on maternity leave.
Suitable candidates should hold a post-graduate qualification in a relevant natural science. Candidates with a solid foundation in chemistry, ecology and/or water quality are preferred, and previous experience in freshwater science will be considered essential. Familiarity with the Resource Management Act will be advantageous. Skills and experience in project management, data analysis and reporting are essential, as is an ability to communicate scientific information in an engaging, informative, and targeted way.
If you enjoy a challenge and believe you have what it takes to succeed in this exciting new role, we want to hear from you!
Applications close 5pm Sunday 22 January 2017.
