Australia nationals: Senior Policy Officer, System Adaptation
The Climate Change Policy branch is leading a significant program of work to implement the Climate Change Act 2017 (the Act), which provides Victoria with a legislative foundation to drive the transition to a climate-resilient community and economy with net zero emissions by 2050. A key element of the Act is the development of seven system-based Adaptation Action Plans (AAPs) to strengthen and drive adaptation planning across key sectors to meet the challenges of climate change and secure our future. The AAPs are being delivered by seven different portfolio areas of Government, and the Climate Change Policy branch provides guidance, advice, capacity building and coordination to support delivery of the seven AAPs.
The Adaptation Policy Team is a multi-disciplinary team that provides advice on climate change adaptation priorities and works with partners to build resilience to climate change in Victoria. The Adaptation Policy team has one work stream focussed on system-based adaptation (AAPs), another focussed on place-based adaptation, and a senior policy officer focused on strategy and projects that cut across both work streams.
This role has no direct reports and is one of several staff reporting to the Senior Policy Officer that leads the system-based adaptation work stream. The role's focus is on applying specialist knowledge, research and analysis of adaptation to formulate policy advice, drive collaboration, capacity building and processes across government relating to AAPs, in collaboration with stakeholders developing and contributing to AAPs across government. It will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the team and branch in a fast-paced and changeable work environment, on system adaptation and its intersection with programs such as place-based adaptation, climate science, data, communications, strategy and risk.
- Tertiary qualification(s) including science, engineering, law, economics, public policy, natural resource or environmental management, development studies or similar is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of climate change adaptation policy issues.
- Demonstrated experience and success in delivering multiple, complex, interdependent projects.
