Hydraulic risk maps provide the basis for rational land use and emergency planning. One of their basic requirements should be to convey clear information to stakeholders about the potential physical implications of the different hazard elements. In this context, a fundamental role is played by the correct identification of vulnerability functions and by the use of sophisticated hydraulic models that are able to grasp the actual flooding directions. This activity is all the more important the greater the level of urbanization of the areas subject to flooding risk. The research aims to map areas at risk of flooding in the face of high, medium and low probability events in the ValleCamonica and Valle del Mella areas. A fundamental tool will be two-dimensional models of solution of the shallow water equations, coupled with vulnerability functions of the exposed assets with a physical and rational basis.
