Position Summary:

Eastern Charlotte Waterways is a not for profit environmental organization which promotes community well-being through sound environmental health. The organization is hiring a Watershed Modeler to assist in the development of a ridge to reef data management tool that translates multiple environmental data sets into high resolution recommendations for riparian buffer zone widths in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island watersheds. This full-time position is based in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, consists of 37.5 hours of work per week from Monday to Friday, and begins immediately.

Duties:

  • Identify data needs and data sources
  • Conduct a literature review on relevant aspects of the project such as buffer width delineation, clustering algorithms, and other models used in environmental sciences
  • Review and summarize literature related to other projects such as watershed management strategies and best practices
  • Design and implement appropriate and science-based workflows for data processing and modeling
  • Write clean and well-documented code in a programming environment of choice

Essential Qualifications:

  • An educational profile featuring one or more of the following: mathematics, data science, computer science, environmental science
  • Strong skills in mathematics and statistics
  • Strong skills in technical writing, organization, and documentation
  • Foundational knowledge of machine learning concepts and techniques
  • Familiarity with a scientific programming environment such as Python or MATLAB
  • Interest in, and willingness to learn, aspects of environmental management and aquatic science
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Valid driver's license

Details:

  • This is a full-time position
  • The position is based at ECW's office, 881 Main Street, Blacks Harbour, NB
  • Work will take place from Monday to Friday
  • Salary will be commensurate with experience
