Overview 

WRI’s Climate Program seeks a Research Assistant to provide research and analysis, with some administrative support as needed, to the CCUS Team. The scope of work includes research and analysis of policies and regulations related to CCUS and other clean energy technologies development in China, the US, and the rest of the world. In addition, research tasks include studying the influence of various low-carbon policies for coal, gas, oil, renewables, and other clean energy technologies. The anticipated work extends to WRI’s international efforts on knowledge sharing on CCUS demonstration projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a young research professional to develop and apply research, writing, and facilitation skills, while interacting with energy experts from academia, business and government.

This position is based in Beijing, China with some travels both within China and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on policy incentives and regulations for CCUS and other clean energy technology development worldwide.
  • Keep track with international developments on CCUS and other clean energy technologies.
  • Support the Clean Energy Research Center Advanced Coal Technology Consortium.
  • Support the team’s efforts on facilitate international collaboration on clean energy technologies.
  • Contribute to publications.
  • Communicate with external audiences including teleconferences, in-person meetings, and online media.
  • Participate internal meetings and teleconferences with both WRI China and WRI Global colleagues, which in some cases during odd hours due to time differences.
  • Contribute to funder reports and funding proposals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in relevant fields, including direct experience in CCUS, coal, or natural gas sectors.
  • Solid understanding of general clean energy technology development, energy policies, and laws in China
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, in both English and Chinese.
  • Ability to work well in a team, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, committed and attentive to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and internet research.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, energy and environmental policy, or a related field or extended experience in the field.
  • Publication track record
  • International experience, including working or studying abroad, or with multinational corporations and international NGOs
    Knowledge of economics and policy modeling.

Final candidates will be required to take a writing test.
