Director of the Environmental Science Program via AGU

The University of Calgary invites applicants for a Director of the Environmental Science Program in the Faculty of Science as either a full-time tenure-track Senior Instructor or as a tenured Teaching Professor depending on qualifications. The appointment will preferably commence on July 1, 2017.  The Directorship component is a five-year renewable term based on successful performance.

The successful Senior Instructor candidate will have:

  • A PhD and field experience in hydrology, hydrogeology, biogeochemistry or soil science or and are enthusiastic about developing and leading environmental science field courses.
  • A demonstrated leadership record including program administration, mentoring/coaching of academic staff and students, managing change and working effectively within a leadership team,
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and engagement in teaching-related scholarly activities,
  • A passion for multidisciplinary, inquiry-based and community-based approaches to learning and,
  • The ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

In addition to the qualifications above, a candidate appointed at the rank of Teaching Professor will have a distinguished record of service contributions to the institution and appropriate discipline, and when relevant, profession. The Teaching Professor rank is reserved for those, who in the opinion of colleagues, are outstanding in their discipline for their contributions to teaching and learning.  Appointment to this highest rank in the Instructor stream requires documented evidence of distinguished achievement in teaching and pedagogy, based on contributions to teaching and learning, curriculum development and educational leadership in a discipline and/or across disciplines.

Environmental Science Program at the University of Calgary is a joint program offered by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts.  Students in the program can focus their studies in one of six areas of specialization (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Physics and Statistics).
