The Resource Protection Officer will be responsible to enforce provincial and federal environment regulations governing the protection of wildlife, fisheries, waterways and waterways, and have the authority afforded that of a Peace Officer as outlined under the Criminal Code of Canada. The Resource Protection Officer is to always be on call to respond to public complaints and protect our natural resources. Requirements: Minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Post-secondary education in related fields is an asset. (Renewable Resource Management, Natural Resource Management, Law Enforcement, etc.) * Valid Ontario Driver’s License * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Criminal Reference Check is required * Conservation Certification required or willingness to obtain * Boaters License required or willingness to obtain * First Aid & CPR required or willingness to obtain * Patrol natural areas to ensure their conservation and protection * Check hunting and fishing parties for the proper Walpole Island First Nation hunting and fishing licenses and to ensure the proper limits are being taken * Investigate complaints of non-compliance * Prepare files for court briefings, continuity of evidence, and consultations with the Crown Prosecutor * Advise the public on safety issues, for example campfires and potentially dangerous wildlife * Communicating with government departments, the public, and in meetings
