Ph.D. Student Position in Environmental and Resource Economics
The Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics at the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan and the TUM School of Management offers a Ph.D. Student Position in Environmental and Resource Economics. Starting at the earliest December 1st, 2020. Initial appointment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13 2/3).
The successful candidate is expected to actively engage in an international project on assessing the impact of small water body (i.e. ponds) ecosystems on the resilience of natural landscapes funded under the EU’s H2020 program. The core aspects include: (i) exploring socio-economic perceptions of net benefits provided by ponds and pondscapes, (ii) understanding ecosystem service (ES) priorities for biodiversity resilience strategies, and (iii) and identifying best nature conservation practices for biodiversity monitoring under water-climate interactions.
The applicant should possess:
- an excellent university degree in economics or applied economics (e.g. agricultural economics, natural resource economics, environmental economics, environmental management, water economics);
- strong analytical and methodological skills with a focus on quantitative data analysis (e.g. econometrics, statistics) as well as qualitative approaches (e.g. in-depth interviewing, survey design, stakeholder analysis);
- experience in computational methods linking economic models with biophysical and hydrological models and spatial analysis;
- excellent communication skills and an interest in working with interdisciplinary researchers;
- high motivation and ability to work independently with a strong team orientation;
- interest in teaching;
- excellent spoken and written English.
