The UNDP Country Office is looking to diversify its substantive portfolio and the services offered to its partners as well as enhance its ability to plan for and respond in a timely fashion to the needs of its stakeholders. The Intern will work in close consultation and collaboration with the Programme staff at UNDP Trinidad and Tobago Country Office, as well as non-resident agencies and Government officials, to help ensure successful project implementation. 

Under the guidance of the Programme Officer (Energy, Environment and Disaster Management), the Intern will provide services for Capacity Building and Effective support to the Portfolio in UNDP Trinidad and Tobago Country Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Programme Officer (Energy, Environment and Disaster Management), the Intern will undertake the following:

  • Assist in strategizing new entry points into Government ministries, NGOs and the Private sector thereby facilitating greater collaboration on project implementation between UNDP and these organisations to meet national priorities;
  • Follow up with national stakeholders on requests for information on pipeline and on-going projects toward final approval based on guidance from the Programme Officer UNDP;
  • Draft correspondence and follow up on meeting requests for pipeline and on-going projects.
  • Review and comment on project deliverables Assist in project document development and implementation
  • Assist the Programme Officer (Energy, Environment and Disaster Management) in providing oversight to project consultants and managers in the execution of their duties for UNDP partnership projects
  • Support the strategic planning and reporting of the UNDP Trinidad and Tobago Country Office
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience working on environmental (including energy) or risk reduction issues relevant to a developing country;
  • Experience in formulating projects, conducting research and analysing findings/data;
  • Prior experience in disaster risk reduction, energy and environmental management programme design and/or policy development would be an asset;
  • Training or certification in project management would be an asset;
  • Sound leadership and management skills;
  • Demonstrates ability to take initiative and work with limited or no supervision;
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a broad cross-section of stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills (written, verbal and interpersonal);
  • Excellent command of English required.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Post graduate training in the environmental (including energy) or disaster risk reduction field.
