Do you want to help make the world a better place with your experience in EU-level advocacy? We’re seeking a fixed-term Climate Advocacy Specialist based in Brussels to support the advocacy of The Open Society European Policy Institute (OSEPI) in promoting climate justice objectives in the EU.
The successful candidate will help to implement climate policy advocacy strategies, monitor and analyse policy developments, identify advocacy targets, engage with internal stakeholders and partner organizations, design and implement advocacy initiatives and assess their impact.
The Open Society Foundations (OSF) work to build vibrant and inclusive democracies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people. We are active in more than 120 countries, making us the world’s largest private funder of independent groups working for justice, democratic governance, and human rights.
OSEPI is the EU policy and advocacy branch of the Open Society Foundations network, based in Brussels. OSEPI works to influence and inform decision-making on EU laws, policy, funding and external action to maintain and promote open societies in Europe and beyond. Climate justice is a new dimension of the Open Society Foundations’ work in Brussels and will involve developing advocacy to promote an effective, just and inclusive transition to a zero-carbon economy.
This is a fixed-term position that will end in December 2021.
As a Climate Advocacy Specialist at Open Society you will:
- Monitor and analyze developments in EU climate policies and politics that are relevant to OSEPI’s strategy, in collaboration with colleagues;
- Develop and execute advocacy initiatives to advance towards OSF’s goals for EU climate policy under the guidance of the supervisor;
- Conduct research and analysis to be used in the design and implementation of advocacy strategies
- Design and carry out mapping exercises to monitor potential partners, advocacy targets, and issues;
- Collaborate with a small team to design and deliver events and other communications materials;
- Provide support and input on team learning and assessment of impact and strategy design.
What we are looking for:
- Three to five years of professional experience.
- Good knowledge of the European Union and public policy, including institutions, actors, processes, and policies.
- Understanding of recent climate policy developments.
- Excellent written and spoken communication in English.
- Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders inside and outside OSF (OSF programs in Brussels, London, and Berlin, think tanks, researchers, and civil society organisations).
- Good project management skills.
- Sound professional judgment on issues requiring sensitivity, confidentiality, and discretion.
Desirable (but not required):
- Fluency in European language/s other than English.
