Water Use Hydrogeologist

Position Summary:   

This position is responsible for providing professional geologic and hydrogeologic expertise related to the DNR’s water quantity regulatory responsibilities. Duties involve the application of hydrogeological, water resources, well construction, technical program knowledge, use of analytical tools to assess site-specific information, and interpretation and application of state statutes, administrative codes and DNR policies and procedures. This position also provides assistance and support to external customers as a key point of contact for information about high capacity well applications and related water use program requirements.

Qualifications:   Minimally qualified candidates will have:
• Education, training, or experience related to hydrology, geology, or natural resource management
• Experience in hydrologic or hydrogeologic interpretation including groundwater and surface water interaction
• Experience communicating scientific or regulatory information to an audience in a variety of communication formats

Well-qualified candidates will have:
• Education and/or experience using computer databases and geospatial software
• Experience interpreting and analyzing State Statutes and/or Administrative Codes
• Education and/or experience in well drilling and well construction
• Education, training or experience in Wisconsin geology
