General Information:

This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Salary: GS-05 $34,916 (Step 01) to $45,393 (Step 10); GS-06 $38,921 (Step 01) to $50,598 (Step 10); GS-07 $43,251 (Step 01) to $56,222 (Step 10).NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

As a Hydrologic Technician within the Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Installs, maintains, services, and troubleshoots a variety of hydrologic sensing, recording, and communications equipment and instrumentation; determines vertical datum at monitoring stations.
  • Effectively manages hydrologic data, evaluates hydrologic data for accuracy, and computes accurate hydrologic records.
  • Considering field conditions, collects hydrologic data such as surface water and ground water level data, water quality data, water quality samples for analysis, and make stream flow measurements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires some physical exertion such as: long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activity; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds such as lifting, carrying stream gauging weights, data collection and monitoring devices, or sample trays.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work regularly involves moderate risks or discomforts associated with visiting field sites with limited access, under adverse weather or flooding conditions, or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals. Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, or life jackets. Operates a motor vehicle as an incident driver.
