Established in 1999, Deutsch-Kasachische Universität (DKU) is a non-profit private higher education institution in Almaty that offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees ( The UNESCO Chair on Integrated Water Resources Management and Natural Resources Research Institute under DKU is an entity implementing activities aligned with directions of education, capacity building and science in the spheres of water management, climate change, and energy efficiency and aimed at the education and capacity building of youth, practitioners and academia.

Central Asian Journal of Water Research (CAJWR: is a bi-lingual (English and Russian), interdisciplinary and open access online journal, which aims to advance scientific knowledge on Integrated Water Resource Management in Central Asia, to connect water experts from the Central Asian region and beyond, and promote their scientific exchange. DKU is managing the journal during all of the stages of its cycle, namely, management of the submission, peer-review and publications processes.  In this regard, we are seeking a Managing Editor to manage the journal during all of the stages of its cycle.

Responsibilities of the Journal scientific assistant

  • Manage, coordinate and monitor overall activities and day-to-day operations of the Journal: Constant communication with Editor in Chief, executive and associated editors, potential authors, reviewers, donors, partners, regional representatives, representatives of organization the Journal work with (Scholastica, CrossRef, RIZN, Antiplagiat, Grammarly etc.)
  • Promotion the Journal and its activities
  • Manage information on the web-site
  • Managing CAJWR budget related to hosting and domain, translation, proof-reading, etc.,
  • Organization of face to face and online Editorial Board meetings
  • Technical pre-proofreading, screening potential suitability of the Manuscripts and their assignment to an executive editor based on a thematic cluster
  • Monitor invitation of reviewers, deadlines, late submissions, pending manuscripts

Other tasks:

  • Translation of documents, when it is needed
  • Preparation of requested documents, e.g. confirmation letters
  • Making suggestions on direction for the Journal strategic development
  • Developing of new documents, modify existing documents, e.g. editorial policies, copyright etc. to support further Journal registration and indexation
  • Suggest strategies for and support Journal further indexation  
  • Approach researchers and scientists working in the water-related areas to invite them to join the Journal as authors and/or reviewers.


  • a Master of Art or Science degree in a relevant field (i.e. natural sciences, water resources management, natural resources management, environmental economy and policy, interdisciplinary approach to natural resources management);
  • demonstrated experience with reviewing manuscripts;
  • fluency in both written and oral English and Russian languages is required;
  • knowledge on webpage interface
  • a strong commitment to maintaining the journal’s reputation for publishing the highest quality research on higher education;
  • a vision for the journal’s future;
  • the ability to identify and attract knowledgeable and dependable manuscript reviewers that represent diverse perspectives and backgrounds;
