Reporting to the Environmental Manager, this position requires a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Responsibilities

  • Undertake daily field inspections and reporting to ensure compliance with the environmental protection plans (EPPs) and other regulatory approvals
  • Prepare and submit reports regularly to ensure thorough documentation and recording of environmental protection aspects of the project
  • Collect field based samples (i.e. water, soils) and record data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of equipment, including laboratory, field, and monitoring equipment
  • Undertake investigations of environmental incidents and prepare written reports and recommendations
  • Maintain and ensure calibration of field monitoring equipment and related computers
  • Communicate effectively with project team members
  • Execute Health, Safety and Environmental Policies, Programs etc

Essential Functions

  • Ability to demonstrate working competency in environmental inspecting and monitoring (such as field/site inspections, water sampling, field assessment of vegetation, aquatic species and wildlife), and in the use of GPS equipment
  • Knowledge of BC Water Quality Guidelines
  • Ensuring that fuel and other spills are properly reported and cleaned up
  • Preparing daily reports and incident reports
  • Ability to identify bird species from sight and sound, as well as conduct bird nest sweeps surveys and implement mitigation measures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess a robust work ethic and be able to work independently, while able to thrive in a team environment
  • Proven problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to make defensible CPESC related decisions with little supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient in the writing of technical reports, data entry, data compilation and the management of databases
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel)

Experience/ Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in environmental studies or technology from an institute of recognized standing with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in environmental planning and monitoring on large construction projects
  • Nation community representatives, and other stakeholders and participants
  • Possess mature judgment and the ability to succeed with minimal supervision both independently and as a team member in an active construction environment
  • Must be willing to work 14/7 rotation schedule in a camp
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver’s licence
