About the Organization
Water For People India Trust was established as a non-profit entity in the year 2008 and is committed to undertake actions that enable and deliver universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation to populations in India. WFPIT design and implement programs/projects relating to improving the quality of life of those most in need by providing funding and training for water, sanitation and health and hygiene programs. In addition, WFPIT works to strengthens the indigenous NGO sector of India by training, funding and building their capacity to perform good development work. Aligned to its ‘Everyone Forever’ approach, WFPIT aims to create and deliver sustainable solutions to WASH. Presently, WFPIT programs are being implemented in West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Maharashtra.

The Capacity Building Officer will work under the project implemented by Water for People India Trust in Birbhum district of West Bengal. S/He will support the programme team on a regular basis to carry out the planned training programmes, organizing seminar/workshops as per Water for People India Strategic Plans for the realization of sustainable water and sanitation services in the communities and institutions. The Capacity Building Officer will be responsible primarily for ensuring the timely completion of all planned training programs, workshops/seminar and community-based activities and preparation of programme reports at organizations level that will improve the status of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in the Operational area of Water for People India Trust

Nature & Scope of the Job:

The nature and scope of the Capacity Building Officer position:
• Liaise between Water for People – India and Its stakeholders for program implementation relating to Capacity Building.
• Assist the project leads to develop the yearly capacity building program plan in line with Water For People – India Country goals and strategies.
• Support the field team to implement quality training programs to achieve positive impacts on the communities.
• Coordinate with internal and external resources in capacity building of implementation team members.

The following are the key responsibilities of Capacity Building Officer:
• Ensure effective implementation of capacity building programs as per budget line and utilisation of funds.
• Support the team with developing ‘Training Module’ as per requirement.
• Support the field team in developing a concrete ‘Training Calendar’ for implementing the planned training programs for the ‘VWSC’, ‘VSHNC’, ‘Jalabandhu’, ‘SDC’ etc.
• Develop the capacities of the team in identified areas through trainings along with internal and external resource agencies.
• Support the project team to conduct training programs with proper training need assessment before the training, pre-test and post-test to understand the knowledge level before and after training.
• Assist the team for preparing quality field documentation.
• Provide necessary handholding support to staffs for conducting ‘post training follow ups’
• Contribute to develop guidelines, technical notes to improve the training program quality
• Maintain and improve healthy working relationship among the staffs and stakeholders for mutual trust, image building and collaborative efforts.
• Support the staff in developing IEC materials as a communicative tool to be used for all Capacity Building programs and awareness generation activities.

The Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
• A master’s degree from a recognized University in social sciences, Rural Development or a related field.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills – including experience in writing program reports
• Highly self-motivated professional with minimum 5 years’ experience in development sector of which at least 3 years of handling Capacity Building programs including Behaviour Change Communication methodologies. Working experience in water and sanitation would be given preference.
• Sound knowledge of government schemes and guidelines relating to Water and Sanitation.
• Capable of multi-tasking, decision-making in a challenging set-up, analytical, documentation skills and a team player.
• Excellent facilitation and training skills
• Excellent computer skills (Windows environment).
• Speaks, reads and writes English fluently; and speaking, reading and writing in Bengali is compulsory
• Comfortable working as a member of a culturally diverse team
• Ability to perform multiple tasks and deliver consistently on deadlines

Duty Station & Travel Time:
The duty station for the said position is mainly at Water For People India Trust Office, Khoyrasol, West Bengal. The position comprises of 60 % of the field work and 40 % office work for necessary report and documentation. The field work involves regular visit to all project sites, locations of partners, concern government departments and stakeholders and also responsible to visit other project areas of Water For People India Trust as and when required
