WWF-Bulgaria is engaged with protected territories and habitat of Europe-wide importance, forest and freshwater conservation, sustainable development of rural regions and climate change. As member of the regional organisation WWF Central and Eastern Europe, WWF-Bulgaria contributes to securing Europe’s great natural treasures in the Danube-Carpathian region and make people live in harmony with nature.

We are looking for a dynamic and committed seasoned professional to join as Conservation Manager, lead our conservation work and the strategic positioning of WWF-Bulgaria as leading nature conservation organisation.

The jobholder will:

  • Lead the development of WWF-Bulgaria’ conservation strategy and workplan, including analysis of the context and the conditions, and organize the necessary processes in this regard
  • Lead the preparation of fundraising concepts for the implementation of WWF-Bulgaria’s conservation strategy
  • Monitor the implementation of WWF-Bulgaria’s conservation strategy and workplan, prepare regular management reports and analyses, propose adaptive management measures
  • Build team cohesion and integration
  • Work towards positioning the organization towards achieving its strategic goals, through strategic partnerships, attracting professional support from the necessary interested stakeholders, engaging with policy makers and key initiatives
  • Steer the implementation of key conservation projects of the organization
  • Ensure alignment with and strengthening of WWF-CEE´s regional conservation strategy
  • Act as member of the Management Team
  • Determine the structure and capacity of the department necessary for the strategy implementation
  • Manage the work of key conservation experts, develop their capacity and ensure all necessary strategic and work processes in the department
  • Manage external experts and collaborators for the implementation of WWF-Bulgaria’s strategic objectives

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Higher education – master’s degree in the field of natural sciences, natural resources management, sustainability, policy or other related field
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in the management of activities in the field of environmental studies and/or protection, natural resources management or sustainability
  • Experience of working in an international, matrix organization
  • Proven track record of managing internal and external stakeholder relations to influence and drive change
  • Experience in creating strategies, work plans or performance monitoring systems
  • Experience working with or in non-governmental organization
  • Experience in project management and fundraising
