The research activity involves the realization of an innovative sensor in stand-alone units to be installed in specific locations of the drinking water distribution network, in collaboration with the water utilities for the identification of the case studies, in order to monitor the development of biofilm (and limestone) on the inner surface of the pipes. Collected data, together with the available quality data already monitored by conventional sensors, will be used to calibrate a model describing the water quality in the network, to be used to define intervention scenarios, specifically focused on application and optimization of the disinfection process, aimed at managing possible alterations in water quality. The calibrated model, if possible, will then be validated in field.
