Full Professor (Multidisciplinary Water Management (MWM))

University of Twente

Enschede, , NL

The University of Twente seeks to appoint a full professor (1,0 fte) in the area of Multidisciplinary Water Management (MWM). The MWM chair aims to assess the pivotal role of water and water management in linking societal aspirations, resource opportunities and environmental limitations for the upcoming era of change. As research group, we see the quest for resilience, and developments towards a biobased and circular economy as challenges for civil engineering research in the water management domain.

We achieved an internationally leading position in research on sustainability of water use at a global scale, adding the consumption perspective to water management. We study the design and assessment of water management policies, supported by a suite of multidisciplinary models. Our expertise lies in analyzing the efficiency, environmental sustainability, equity and resilience of innovative solutions for current and upcoming large societal challenges. In education we contribute to the curricula of Civil Engineering (BSc) and Civil Engineering and Management (MSc).

Job description

Research: you will initiate and perform innovative research and lead the MWM chair. You will form partnerships with external parties and attract national and international funding. You will coach young high-profiled academic staff and supervise junior researchers.

Your profile

You have an internationally recognized track record of quantitative and conceptual research in the management of water systems and freshwater resources. Your excellence is shown by a relevant PhD, high-impact publications, keynote presentations and other academic activities.

You have an inspiring vision on future developments in your field. You are more a generalist than a specialist in a specific discipline and can contribute to the ‘high tech – human touch’ link by merging science with policy design and assessment from a holistic perspective.

You are experienced in academic teaching and hold a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) for Dutch Universities or a similar qualification or are willing to obtain this.

You are experienced in project leadership, and in supervising PhD students and mentoring academic staff while valuing their autonomy. You have well-developed communication skills, a collegial attitude and can work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
