MISSION STATEMENT:
Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition (“The Coalition”) seeks to benefit the economy and enhance the quality of life for the more than 500,000 residents in the Greens Bayou watershed through flood mitigation, parks and trails development, and economic development.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director is the primary advocate for the mission of the GBCC, a 501(c) (3) organization that supports initiatives related to flood mitigation, parks and recreation, and economic development in the Greens Bayou watershed. This position has lead responsibility for fundraising efforts of the Coalition; works with the board of directors to develop strategy and direction; oversees staff, programs and volunteer committees.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific Duties
_Fundraising _
_ _ * Execute fundraising strategy and lead project-specific capital campaigns
- Cultivate major donor support from corporations, foundations, and public membership
- Manage grant administration, reporting, and related operations
_ Finance_
- Develop and manage the organization’s budget with the bookkeeper
- Review financial statement and present to Board on a monthly basis
- Oversee internal accounting processes and work with auditor on annual audit
Human Resources/Organizational Management
- Hire/supervise staff, provide mentorship and leadership
- In conjunction with Executive Committee, conduct yearly performance reviews
- Develop professional development plans for each staff member and provide opportunities for success
- Ensure Board and staff compliance with internal policies
Project Development
- Identifies potential partnership opportunities for grants and/or expansion of programs and completion of park, open space, trail connectivity, and flood mitigation projects in the watershed
- Secures funding, initiates and manages the Parks & Trails Master Plan and Paddle Trail
Strategic Plan
- Advocates for flood damage reduction improvements in the watershed by working closely with Harris County Flood Control and other stakeholders
Board Development and Support
- Provide Board with organizational transparency of operations and finances with regular reports, timeline status, and measured deliverables of program goals
- Make policy recommendations and provide information to aid in decision-making and strategy building
- Develop annual operating and implementation plans
Outreach and Marketing
- Publicly represent Greens Bayou Coalition to supporters, businesses, agencies, the community, elected officials, and other partner groups
- Oversee work of all committees including reach, paddle trail and policy committees that meet on a monthly basis
- Organize and supervise fundraising and community events
- With staff assistance, create and execute marketing strategy and supporting materials
- Collaborate with project partners on initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- A background, level of maturity, and work experience commensurate with the responsibilities of managing an organization, requiring an aggressive, fast-moving approach to project management
- Previous experience in leading teams; managing and coaching other; resolving personnel issue
- Political acumen with a high comfort level with asking people for money
- Established relationships within the GBC community Ensure Board
- Capital project development and management preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of non-profit finance and budgeting
- Excellent written/oral communicator
- Comfort working with high-level executives and political leaders
- Comfort working with a diverse community of stakeholders
- Computer literacy and experience with MS office, QuickBooks and donor-tracking software
- Experience in Nonprofit grant writing
- Ability to learn web design update
- Goal-oriented, persistent and persuasive in the contact, follow-through and completion of acquiring donor gifts
- Ability to write, edit, and revise in-house publications promoting GBCC initiatives or oversee staff development of same
- Ability to work with and support the GBCC Board of Directors
- Strong planning skills
