The current UNICEF-Government of Zimbabwe Country Programme of Cooperation (2016-2020) aims to support Zimbabwe to sustain and build upon the gains achieved for children during the 2012-2015 Country Programme of Cooperation. The programme focuses on improving the quality of social services, increasing access to services, and helping to build national and sub-national capacities to provide low-cost, high-impact interventions for all children, especially the most vulnerable.

How can you make a difference?
A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within UNICEF Zimbabwe's WASH Section, for a passionate and committed WASH Officer, NO-2 level. The WASH Officer reports to the WASH Specialist (NO-3 level), providing technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process. Furthermore, the WASH Officer prepares, manages and implements a variety of technical and administrative tasks, related to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH output results of the country programme.
This post will specifically support the ongoing emergency response activities of WASH (on COVID-19, drought, typhoid and cholera risk reduction) as well as support the WASH team on their interactions with the Ministry of Health on accelerating demand-led sanitation in Zimbabwe in line with the National Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy.
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
- Programme development and planning
- Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results
- Technical and operational support for programme implementation
- Humanitarian WASH preparedness and response
- Networking and partnership building
- Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering or another relevant technical field.
- Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
- DEVELOPMENTAL: a minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.
- HUMANITARIAN: Experience in WASH emergency programming is required.
- Fluency in English and the local language of the duty station is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered as an asset.
