Currently, we are in search of eligible candidates for the following tenure-track junior professorship at the Faculty of Biology‍

Junior Professor in

“Ecological Modelling of Freshwater Ecosystems”

(Salary Class Group W1 LBesO W – with Tenure Track as per W2)

We are looking for an excellent junior scientist with an area of expertise in the field of ecological modelling. The successful candidate should have a research focus on freshwater communities and/or freshwater ecosystems, which will complement the existing fields of research within the Faculty of Biology and the Universities’ main research area “Water Research”.

A strong background on mechanistic and/or statistical modelling of ecological processes, phenomena or interactions on the macroscale is required, e.g. species distribution modelling, dispersal modelling, modelling of invasions, modelling of stressor effects, metacommunity modelling or food-web modelling. Experience in applied topics (e.g. water management, nature conservation) is welcomed‍

“Water Research” is one of five key research areas of our university in which 90 water experts including 29 professorships of our university participate under the coordination of the Centre for Water and Environmental Research (https://www.uni-due.de/zwu). The willingness to cooperate within the Faculty of Biology and the key research area “Water Research” is expected. The laboratories for this professorship will be located at the Campus in Essen, where state-of-the-art infrastructure for research in this area is provided. The applicant will also teach in the study programs of the Faculty of Biology.

Publications in the field of expertise in peer-reviewed journals are expected, especially in leading international journals.

Experience in the procurement of competitive third-party funding, involvement in international research and international experience are desirable. Furthermore, leadership experience in research is beneficial.

The hiring requirements comply with § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG).

Teaching requirements currently are four hours of teaching during the first, and five hours of teaching during the second employment stage of the Junior Professorship. Employment is contingent on the presentation of the corresponding requirements for temporary civil service. The duration of employment complies with § 39 Sect. 5 HG.
