Job Description
The Hydrology Group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory develops resilient and sustainable solutions for complex, national and global scale challenges in energy and water systems using advanced computational modeling, sensor development and deployment, and novel geospatial and data analytics.
We are seeking a research assistant with a recent bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related from an accredited university. The post-bachelor will assist in software tool development for a number of subsurface hydrologic applications. Such applications include employing physics-based machine learning algorithms for carbon sequestration, employing optimization schemes for subsurface monitoring, and incorporating geo-based knowledge into multiphase flow reservoir simulators. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in the development of decision support software tools which represent engineered controls on subsurface processes. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a diverse set of research staff and project tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.
Preferred Qualifications

BS/BA in Computer Science or related field with 0 years of experience

Fluency in one or more programming and scripting languages (e.g., JAVA, PYTHON, R)

Familiarity with object-oriented design and software development processes (e.g., version control, QA/QC, unit testing)

Experience with scientific visualization tools and data formats (e.g., SWT, HDF5)

Experience with web development tools (JavaScript, CSS, SQL)

Experience in GUI development for subsurface reservoir engineering tools (e.g., DREAM, NRAP-Open-IAM)

Prior experience working for a National Laboratory
