Duties and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities :

Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action.
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
Ensure proper filing of documents.
Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function.
Help plan and carry out needs assessments, baseline studies and periodic studies, and feedback findings to the stakeholders.
Liaise with community leaders and other sectors and agencies working locally in order to coordinate within the WASH sector and between sectors such as Shelter, Education and Food Security.
Collect primary information for reports preparation, receive information from community and relay to NRC Office and coordinate with the M&E team.
Play a key and fundamental role in community mobilization and convening community meetings.
Coordinate with the WASH cluster partner staff, NGOs/INGOs/UN agencies and Govt Line agencies to avoid any duplication of services.

Specific responsibilities :
 
In close collaboration with the WASH officer, plan, organize and carry out daily hygiene promotion activities within NRC area of interventions in line with agreed work plans, strategies and methodologies.
He/she will conduct the HP sessions in the targeted areas including the HP sessions targeting children to help them acquire safer hygiene behavior.
Assist the HP officer in implementing the behavior change methodology (PHAST) and CHAST for the WASH programs.
Assist in conducting the WASH assessments to determine scope of work, resource requirement and estimated cost, including in the identification public health risks in the community.
Conduct Population data surveys and Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) surveys related to hygiene and provide inputs for the development of the questionnaires and methodology.
Support transportation and distribution of hygiene promotion materials and other in kind WASH supplies.
Sensitize communities on good hygiene practices with key messages focusing on water quality, water conservation, safe disposal of solid wastes, diarrheal diseases prevention, etc. as adopted from time to time depending on the prevailing public health situations.
Assist the WASH officer in conducting WASH committee meetings in target sites, in addition to monitoring the WASH facilities and enforcing proper hygiene management of the facilities.
Participate in the development of monitoring tools for the hygiene promotion activities.
Support the preparation of the detailed implementation plans, monthly and weekly plans of WASH activities in his/her area.
Supervise hygiene promotion activities and collect data from the community workers/volunteers and prepare regular reports on WASH activities and monitor progress.

Qualifications

Experience from working as an assistant Project Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context. Elementary technical knowledge in Public health , or Technician certificate in public health.
 Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts. Proven practical experience in community engagement water and sanitation work. Community engagement and supervising contractors or community volunteers involved in WASH work and at least 1 year preferably with an INGO.
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
Some knowledge of English .

–          Can work with different community groups-women, youth, elderly without feeling intimidated.
–          Strong context assessment skills and ability to communicate to the office in time.
–          Able to communicate, collaborate and share tasks with other NRC (Shelter, Education, FSL and                     M&E) and other NGO field staff.
