  • Develop stage-area and geometric characteristics for several sampling locations
  • Interpolation of hydrological data
  • Development of sediment-discharge and stage-discharge rating curves
  • Develop annual concentration, flux, and yield for a number of water quality parameters using a weighted regression method based on time, discharge, and seasonal factors
  • Write and present plain language summary of methods, results and implications
  • Other related duties as assigned.


To investigate the spatial and temporal variability of water quality and quantity parameters in the Tobacco Creek Watershed in southern Manitoba. The objective of this work is to get a better understanding of how the hydrology of this watershed changes as function of spatial scale and link this to land-use (e.g., annual and perennial cropping), watershed characteristics (e.g., soil properties, presences of ditches), and precipitation patterns (e.g., snow pack).


The ideal candidate will have experience in:

  • Sediment source fingerprinting
  • Calculating/estimating discharge, sediment rating curves, and sediment/nutrient loads
  • Working with hydrological, sediment and nutrient data within the Lake Winnipeg basin
  • Working independently
  • MS Excel, R, or other suitable software for managing data and data analysis
  • Math, statistics and writing

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Completion of an MSc. in water resources engineering or related field
