The Program Associate will play a central role in coordinating the domestic grantmaking activities of the program department, provide programmatic and administrative support to the domestic program team, and act as a liaison between program staff, grantees and external consultants. This position will work closely with the Sr. Program Officer overseeing the Multiple Sclerosis and Hospitality Workforce Development priority areas.
- Coordinates the grantmaking process to include the following:
- Serves as the primary contact and provides guidance to grantees and applicants during the application and reporting processes
- Participates in proposal research, summaries and budgets during the review process
- Reviews and analyzes submitted grant proposals
- Reviews, analyzes, and summarizes grantee reports
- Works closely with Sr. Program Officer in producing board write-ups and presentation materials, including dashboard analytics and memos, to the board
- Participates in peer review process of board write-ups
- Participates in and provides insights in strategic grant planning, budgeting and portfolio coding.
- Interfaces with grants management to comply with internal audit and grant tracking procedures and grantmaking processes.
- Performs program related research and special projects as assigned.
- Coordinates external program related events such as meetings, conferences and presentations.
- Participates in planning and leads logistics of annual convening of grantees, stakeholders and monitoring, evaluation and learning partners (MEL).
- Provides support to Sr. Program Officer with appointments, contacts, correspondence, reports and maintenance of information.
- Coordinates with team members and communications team to develop help develop communications strategy and content.
- Undertakes projects and other duties as assigned.
- A bachelor’s degree in public health, public policy, social work or related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, are required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Excellent writing skills and the critical thinking skills to analyze and summarize reports.
- Strong oral communication and relationship-building skills; interacts with others in a professional and diplomatic way.
- Solid organizational skills, ability to effectively manage and prioritize workflow to meet deadlines, and a strong attention to detail.
- Works well both independently and collaboratively within a team and demonstrates a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness and flexibility to meet needs of the role.
- Welcomes feedback as a means to personal and professional growth.
- A passion for the Foundation’s mission and interest in its strategic initiatives and major program areas.
- The ability to learn and process information quickly and a desire to learn potentially new subject areas.
- An understanding of grantmaking and the nonprofit sector are highly desired.
- Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database experience; knowledge of GivingData or other grants management software a plus.
