Doctoral programme in Civil Engineering

The doctoral programme in Civil Engineering currently offered is an interdepartmental programme organised around six broad areas of knowledge: structural engineering and construction, geotechnical engineering, water engineering, transport engineering and regional planning, environmental engineering and sustainability, and computational engineering.

The candidate will work at the Center of Applied Research in Hydrometeorology (CRAHI, http://www.crahi.upc.edu/), one of the research centers in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

CRAHI develops methodologies and systems to provide a scientific and technical response to the needs in the hydrological cycle processes, water resources management, and hydrometeorological risks, including the impact of climate change. At CRAHI, observations and processing of remote sensing data are combined with innovative models and IT applications for forecasting and alerting to support the decision-making process and managing resources and emergencies.

The candidate will particularity work within the framework of EU Horizon Europe RESIST project (Regions for climate change resilience through Innovation, Science and Technology) to increase the capacity to detect extreme situations and achieve better preparation of society and municipalities so that regions are more resistant to climate change.

Requirements

The applicant needs to have an MSc degree in civil or environmental engineering or hydrometeorology.  Knowledge in early warning system, multi-hazard assessment and  forecasting, python coding, are considered advantages.

Good skills in English, writing and oral, are needed. Skills in Catalan or Spanish is considered advantage.

What we offer

The doctoral studies at UPC take approximately four years. The candidate will be offered a-year contract with possibility of another tthree-year extension and encouraged to apply domestic scholarships as well.  The researcher is expected to commit to complete a Doctoral Dissertation (PhD degree) within this time in the project.

The starting (gross) salary is applied according to UPC’s rule.

Starting date is before February 2024.
