To service its expanding functions, Office of Groundwater Impact Assessment (OGIA) is now seeking to further strengthen its core team of expertise in hydrogeology, geosciences, modelling (groundwater, geological and geomechanical), data sciences, environmental sciences, remote sensing and surveying.

Operating within OGIA, this particular position will support and lead multi-disciplinary projects and investigations that underpin subsurface impact assessments from coal seam gas (CSG) and mining development in Queensland.

The Office of Groundwater Impact Assessment (OGIA) is an independent office for undertaking cumulative assessment and management of groundwater, and subsidence, impacts from coal seam gas and mining development in Queensland since 2010.

OGIA is a unique workplace, as it:

  • undertakes the majority of work in-house including scientific investigations and conceptualisation as well as groundwater, geological and geomechanical modelling supported by data science and remote sensing techniques.

Operating within OGIA, this particular position will support and lead multi-disciplinary projects and investigations that underpin subsurface impact assessments from coal seam gas (CSG) and mining development in Queensland.

Key Duties and Accountabilities

  • Scientific assessment

     – Manage and manipulate large multidisciplinary scientific data sets for regional scale assessments by identifying, utilising and developing appropriate tools with support from senior team members or the manager.

    – Acquire field data for scientific assessment as and when necessary.

   – Support scientific analysis by undertaking specific tasks as directed, compile results and draw preliminary conclusions for discussions with the supervisor.

   – Maintain sound understanding of basic scientific principles in a specific science area relevant to the work of OGIA.

  • Reporting and Communication

  – Prepare technical reports, presentations, workflows, documentation relating to scientific analysis undertaken for the senior or principal level scientists’ review.

  – Prepare presentation and engagement material for the leadership team.

  • Leadership and project/program management

  – Learn and seek guidance from the team members as necessary.

  – Contribute as a personal leader.

 – Manage field data acquisition programs.

 – Support the leadership team in the overall assessment and management of subsurface impacts of water extraction by the resources industry.

  • Other duties as directed and required.

Role requirements

  • A degree qualification in a relevant field such as geosciences, hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, geomechanical modelling, hydrology, engineering, remote sensing, surveying, data sciences or applied science is a mandatory requirement.
