What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

Salary Range: $59,165 (Step 01) to $93,056 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. 

The incumbent of this position is entitled to a cost of living allowance (COLA) of 2.86% for 2020 in addition to basic salary.

There are three vacancies; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Responsibilities

As a Hydrologic Technician within the Alaska Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Compute and check the full range of surface-water records.
  • Collect, process, and prepare for lab analysis a full range of field measurements such as water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen and alkalinity.
  • Collects groundwater data that includes water levels and well information.
  • Lead a team in the Installation, operation, and maintenance of scientific instruments/structures at water sites.
  • Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.

Physical Demand:

The work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or other similar activities. The work requires moderate physical ability and average agility and dexterity.

Work Environment:

The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in the field. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work. Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear.
