Local recruitment: Water Sewage and Sewage Plant Supervisor Assessment

California Department of Parks and Recreation

California, USA 🇺🇸

The Water and Sewage Plant Supervisor Examination is now open! Once you pass the exam, you will be able to apply for Water and Sewage Plant Supervisor opportunities across California!

There are over 100 state parks with water systems operated by licensed park staff.  These systems typically consist of a groundwater or surface water source, treatment equipment, storage tanks, and piping. Also, there are seven state parks that collect and dispose of wastewater through treatment plants regulated by National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permits.  These water and wastewater systems are operated by a dedicated California State Parks team of licensed operators who work in specific geographic state park districts around the state. Operators typically work on multiple systems within each state park district.

The Water and Sewage Plant Supervisor oversees operation of state park water treatment and/or sewage treatment plants, conducts testing of water and sewage in the various stages of treatment, interprets tests and determines the necessary changes in dosage and treatment processes. You will also supervise or perform the cleaning and upkeep of equipment, making adjustments and repairs as necessary among other daily tasks.
