The aim of the research is to monitor grapevine water status, as well as soil water status, in selected vineyards of the cross-border area Italy-Slovenia. Plant and soil water status will be correlated to analysis of isotopic composition of soil water sampled collected at different depths, of rainfall, as well as of xylem sap extracted from grape plants at different time points during the growing season. Data will be analyzed in the framework of guidelines for irrigation strategies for vineyards, aimed at minimizing the impact of climate changes on viticulture in the cross-border area. Candidates should demonstrate an expertise in the analysis of plant-soil-water relationships
