- GS-07: $43,251 (Step 01) to $64,964 (Step 10)
Salary is dependent upon the location. NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

As a Hydrologic Technician within the New York Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
- Performs routine and field lab analysis.
- Collects, processes, and prepares a full range of samples for lab analysis.
- Assembles, evaluates, and prepares field and laboratory data.
- Observes and notes various hydraulic or environmental conditions.
- Computes and checks routine water quality records using basic techniques.
- Operates a government motor vehicle as an incidental driver.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed outdoors and involves moderate or sometimes extreme exposure to the discomforts of rain, cold/hot weather, rapidly running or icy streams and rivers, or irritant chemicals. The work is physically demanding and includes walking, bending, crawling, climbing, and lifting of equipment up to 100 pounds, sometimes during adverse weather conditions. The employee typically wears special clothing/gear, mask, special safety boots, respirators, goggles, waders, life jackets, and reflective rain gear.
