Job purpose and background

Do you care about environmental issues? Do you want to be part of the need for action on water security? Would you like to be at the heart of driving changes through environmental disclosure?

You are responsible for evolving CDP’s water security questions and guidance. Specifically, you will work with the Technical Manager, Water Security Scoring Evolution to ensure that the water security questionnaire for CDP is streamlined and merged with the other thematic questionnaires to focus on disclosures that demonstrate ambition and progress to sustainable water use. You will work closely with the Senior Manager, Question to Score to deliver the developed questions and associated guidance to time and budget.

This role requires experience of delivering technical projects in water-related disclosure to time, budget, requirements and quality. You will need to demonstrate capability to work and communicate effectively with others, including stakeholders and thematic teams (such as climate change, forests, and water), to ensure processes are followed, deliverables meet milestones and are delivered to high standards of quality. A knowledge of environmental issues (specifically water security) is critical, and how they affect, and are affected by, businesses.

The role is based in CDP’s London office and reports directly to the Senior Manager, Question to Score, in the Disclosure Evolution team in the Disclosure department. The role is a full time, 14-month contract.

About the Disclosure Evolution Team, Disclosure Department

CDP’s Disclosure Department is responsible for evolving and operating CDP’s disclosure platform and processes. The Disclosure Evolution team is responsible for delivering projects that enhance CDP’s environmental disclosure platform used by companies, cities and state/regional governments. This encompasses changes to make our questionnaires, guidance and scoring methodologies more impactful by measuring and driving transition of disclosers to more sustainable business models, as well as changes to make our platform and operations more efficient.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of CDP’s water security questions and guidance, to time, requirements and budget. This includes:
  • Working with the water security team to define what “transition” will mean as it pertains to, for instance, sufficient water abstraction and zero pollution;
  • Prioritising data points essential for assessing the sustainability of corporate water use;
  • Delivering questions that are aligned with and/or, where appropriate, merged with CDPs equivalent forests and climate change questions;
  • Creation and/or modifying guidance for such questions that aids corporate disclosure and builds upon best practice
  • Provide materials and training for CDP colleagues and external users;
  • Any other tasks required to support the development of CDP’s disclosure objectives more broadly

Required skills and experience:

  • Experience (3-5 years) of thought leadership and/or delivery of water security-related disclosure requirements in multi-stakeholder environments to time, budget and quality, and reporting of key performance indicators
  • Experience and knowledge in corporate water security disclosure, action and target setting, including sustainable fresh water abstraction management and minimising corporate water pollution
  • Experience organising and facilitating multi-stakeholder workshops and requirements gathering
  • A background or relevant degree in accountancy, water management, environmental policy, natural resources or environmental sciences, including knowledge of policy and jurisdictional regulations
  • A flexible, friendly and diligent working style with a proven record of working within a team to deliver projects successfully
  • Track record of successful communication of technical subjects through a variety of media, including writing and proof reading technical documents, and conference presenting
  • Proficiency in excel, power point and use of analytics tools
  • Fluent in English and an excellent standard of written English

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience of working in or familiarity with corporate sectors (such as financial services, energy, chemicals, mining and agriculture)
  • Technical ability in another language (especially Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese)

This is a full time, 14-month role based at CDP’s London office reporting to Senior Manager, Question to Score, Disclosure Evolution.
