To undertake research of international excellence and contribute to knowledge exchange activities relative to the discipline, contribute to learning and teaching on agreed programmes and undertake administration and service activities in line with the School/College’s strategic objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and progress individual/joint research projects of international standard in the subject area with the support of a mentor, as required.
Write up research findings/outcomes for publication in leading journals for dissemination as appropriate, identifying potential sources and contributing to funding applications as an individual or team member.
Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College, including establishing a track record of high-quality publications.
Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses within the subject area in accordance with the subject’s priorities including accepting responsibilities as course co-ordinator for one or more courses.
Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
Participate fully in examination and other assessment processes, as appropriate, using a variety of methods and techniques and to provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
Contribute to the development of theory and practice in the subject area.
Supervise individual student projects at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, and to contribute to the supervision and training of postgraduate research students, as appropriate, to ensure their effective development.
Take on administrative or management roles within the subject/School as assigned by the Head of School.
Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.

The James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow is an energetic and growing international centre of excellence for Engineering research and teaching. The School leads research in five Divisions: Aerospace Sciences; Biomedical Engineering; Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering; Infrastructure and Environment; and Systems, Power and Energy. We have 135 academics and 160 post-doctoral researchers supported by 65 technicians and 26 professional services staff. Currently we have 350 research students working towards doctorates.
The School offers 20 undergraduate programmes in Aeronautical, Biomedical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical disciplines leading to BEng. and MEng. degrees. We are now seeking to fill a position for a successful academic in the areas of Water or Environmental Engineering. The post-holder will develop, lead and sustain research that complement the existing strengths in Water Environment research within the School. Areas such as environmental sensing, water resources engineering, informatics and the interface between physics and biology are of particular interest. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, assessment, project supervision and curriculum design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and participate in School management and organisation.

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, £35,845 – £40,322 per annum.
