The Field Coordinator will assist in the implementation of a project to identify effective strategies for implementing and sustaining improved delivery of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services in healthcare facilities (HCFs) in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Uganda. The incumbent will conduct baseline and follow up evaluations of WASH in HCFs to assess project implementation and outcomes and provide technical assistance for project training and implementation. The project will be implemented in partnership with the United States (US) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the CDC Foundation, and other partner organizations.
The incumbent will be an employee of the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch (WDPB) in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID). The position will be based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.


As the Field Coordinator, the incumbent will work closely with CDC technical experts, country partners, project staff and other partners to support project planning and evaluation; formulation and implementation of activities; coordination of partners; dissemination of findings; and related activities.

Specifically, the selected incumbent will:
1. Assist in development and revision of data collection tools and protocols for evaluating coverage of WASH services in HCFs.
2. Lead trainings of enumerators and healthcare workers.
3. Coordinate and lead teams of enumerators in collecting data.
4. Conduct descriptive and comparative statistical analyses.
5. Represent the project team at technical, programmatic and planning meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Coordinate and present materials and reports for technical and scientific meetings.
7. Maintain documentation on project activities, meetings and data analysis.
8. Coordinate, draft, and support the development of program related manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present abstracts at scientific conferences and meetings.
9. Present findings to external audiences at national and international conferences and other forums.
10. Travel internationally as needed (up to 30 percent annually).
11. Participate in other duties as assigned.


1. Master’s degree in public health or a related field from an accredited college or university.
2. Minimum of four (4) years work experience in global health or related professional experience. Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa and in the field of WASH strongly preferred, but not required.
3. Knowledge and experience in study design and field supervision of data collection, including training enumerators.
4. Knowledge and experience in data management and quantitative analysis; knowledge of SAS or R preferred.
5. Knowledge and experience with mobile data collection platforms, including programming software and backstopping electronic data collection
6. Experience transforming data into reports to share findings, including experience with data visualization and experience tailoring information for different types of audiences
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing, and editing complex documents such as detailed reports, executive summaries, briefing documents, and peer-reviewed articles.
8. Ability to represent the project team in internal and external meetings, leading discussions concerning program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
9. Highly detail oriented, collaborative within a diverse team, demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility, and able to prioritize and work under tight deadlines.
10. Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic, and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners.
11. Strong technical skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and database management

• Experience with Open Data Kit (ODK)
• Experience in qualitative data methods; working knowledge of MAXQDA
• Experience in conducting program evaluations and/or process evaluations, either internationally or domestically
• Proficiency in written and spoken French
