Numerical modeling of underground water flow via EURAXESS

Università di Pavia

This project is finalized to the quantitative and qualitative determination of various micro-pollutants present in the surface waters of the water network (artificial and natural), as well as groundwater. Both “traditional” pollutants (such as metals, organic substances, nutrients, etc.) and “emerging” (antibiotic molecules, steroids, microplastics and their degradation metabolites, pathogenic viruses) will be considered.
These aspects, at the basis of migration and diffusion of micro-particles in the environment, can be effectively understood through a solid numerical modeling of water flows in the subsoil and in the surface irrigation network. These models can simulate and highlight the fluid interactions with the solid part and the transport / diffusion / reaction phenomena of these associated chemical and biological species.
The research activity is aimed at modeling these processes.
