The primary task of the Ecosystem Management Project Officer will be to support the implementation of the Nature-based Solutions Programme Area at regional level. The scope of activities will include the management of the EU-funded project “Earth Observation Platform for Environmental Law Enforcement Support” (EnviroLENS) and support to resource mobilisation and development of a portfolio of activities under the Bonn Challenge and ECCA30 initiative.
EnviroLENS is a project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme that aims to increase the utilisation of satellite-derived information for land use monitoring and environmental law enforcement. The project brings together a consortium of public and private sector organisations. ECCA30 is a joint regional initiative aimed at restoring 30 million hectares of land in Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia by 2030.
Other tasks will include liaison with IUCN Programmes, Members, Commissions as well as partner relations.
• Support the implementation of IUCN’s Nature-based Solutions Programme Area in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region
• Perform tasks related to project management, coordination and reporting
• Assist in identifying partnership opportunities and project development related to the Bonn Challenge and ECCA30 initiative
• Liaise with the IUCN Secretariat, Members, and Commissions on programme development and project implementation
SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Coordinate the implementation of activities within the Horizon 2020 EnviroLENS project in collaboration with the IUCN Environmental Law Center and the European Regional Office
• Contribute to project planning and reporting, focusing on IUCN’s key roles in use case development and communication
• Collaborate with consortium partners to actualise project input to pilot cases and demonstrate the use of earth observations for environmental law enforcement
• Coordinate the implementation of the EnviroLENS project communication and dissemination plan and ensure timely and quality communication of project results through IUCN’s and project’s communications channels
• Support organisation or project-related workshops, conferences, and development of publications by IUCN and consortium members
• Work closely with the IUCN Forest Conservation Programme on strategic planning and development of a portfolio of activities related to the Bonn Challenge and ECAA30
• Support partner and donor relations for successful implementation of Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) activities in the ECA region
• Actively promote IUCN’s knowledge tools and standards on FLR with members and partners
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is 28.800 EUR subject to deductions for social security contributions and health insurance, and before tax.
| • BSc degree (or higher) in a subject related to environmental sciences and natural resource management • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a field related to land-use planning forest landscape restoration and natural resource management • Familiarity with environmental policy frameworks and processes • Experience in project management, with particular emphasis on EU funding mechanisms • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary groups, including governments, experts, civil society and the private sector • Excellent communication skills • Capacity to work effectively under time pressure and extended hours, if required and pre-approved by the ECARO Director • Willingness to travel within the region, sometimes at short notice • Excellent command English and other languages spoken in the region • Computer literacy in MS Office packages • Excellent organizational and networking skills • Team-oriented attitude and ability to work independently • Ability to adapt communication to diverse audiences and overview of different communication channels |
