Rivers Team Support Officer

Shropshire Wildlife Trust

Shrewsbury, , GB

Shropshire Wildlife Trust is the leading wildlife charity in the county, working to protect and enhance wildlife and wild places of Shropshire and to engage people with nature.

About the role:

We’re currently looking for a highly organised individual with a passion for conservation to assist our River Projects Team.  The role will deliver and develop catchment based projects to help meet the objectives of the Water Framework Directive, water environment projects which might focus on aquatic species, water quality and river restoration.

You’ll be working all year round, indoors and outdoors in most weathers.  The post will be fully supported by the River Projects Manager so this is a great opportunity for learning and self development as you’ll have the chance to fully participate in the conservation of the water environment.

About you:

Ideally you’ll have an understanding of conservation and the aquatic environment.  Good communication skills are essential and you must be able to translate sometimes technical language in a straightforward and accessible manner suitable for a broad range of audiences. A qualification in a land management related subject and practical experience would be an advantage but is not essential.

Some experience of office based tasks and conservation or surveying would be useful, as would an understanding of fish ecology and aquatic invertebrates.  Good IT skills in Microsoft Office, Excel and online media are essential, and knowledge of digital mapping, such as ArcGIS, would also be useful.

Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential.

In return:

  • Competitive Salary

  • 20 days (pro rata) holiday – increasing year on year to 25 days (pro rata)

  • Pension after 6 months of service

About us:

We are the only voluntary organisation in the region concerned with all aspects of nature conservation. Shropshire has suffered from years of habitat destruction. We can help nature recover, but we rely on the support of our members to create an environment rich in wildlife, valued by all.

Shropshire Wildlife Trust is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK. For more than 50 years we have worked with local people to make Shropshire rich in wildlife and protect special places for generations to come.

Together with our members, partners and volunteers, we are committed to creating a Shropshire rich in wildlife for everyone.

Closing date: 5pm on 3 April 2020
