The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS) is inviting applications for the position of University Lecturer / University Instructor in Environmental Engineering. Tampere University places strong emphasis on the development of circular economy both in teaching and research. ENS coordinates the MSc programs in Environmental and Energy Engineering and International Master’s Programme in Environmental Engineering.

The Bio and Circular Economy group contributes to the teaching in the fields of environmental and energy engineering. The courses cover a wide range of topics from molecular biology level up to waste and wastewater treatment. The graduates are employed widely in the environmental sector, e.g. in consulting, industries, municipalities and research institutes. We are now seeking a key player to widen and strengthen our teaching capacity in environmental engineering. 

Job description

We are seeking highly motivated and accomplished applicants for teaching in the the broad field of environmental engineering. Your teaching may focus, for example, on water and waste engineering, sustainability or circular economy. We especially welcome applicants who can complement our current teaching and research profile. Your background is taken into consideration in the assignment of the specific teaching areas.

Your primary role is to participate in planning and execution of the curriculum in collaboration within the unit. You are expected to plan, prepare and organize teaching, supervise BSc and MSc theses and act as a tutor for the students. You will work in a multidisciplinary and international environment where the interest in developing teaching methods and students’ learning experience are highly appreciated. We have modern teaching and research facilities and we encourage employees to actively seek professional growth, for example, by attending pedagogical training courses available at the University. Although the position is teaching oriented, you are very welcome to participate in research as well.

Requirements

Candidates for the position of University Lecturer must hold an applicable doctoral degree and for the position of University Instructor an applicable higher university degree. We appreciate engineering background, practical experience in the field of the position, pedagogical skills and merits and the ability to use versatile teaching methods.

We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious and goal-oriented teacher. The successful completion of tasks requires also organization and co-operation skills. Proficiency in English is required to provide high-quality education and academic supervision to students who are working within our international campus community.

Furthermore, we expect all candidates appointed to a teaching-oriented position to have completed a minimum of 10 credits of pedagogical studies intended for university teachers or other equivalent studies. If you have not completed these studies when joining the University, we are expecting you to complete them within two years from the beginning of the employment relationship. We have pedagogical studies available for all our teaching staff, free of charge.

We offer

The position will be filled on a permanent basis, commencing in May 2020 or as mutually agreed. Appointments will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a trial period of 6 months.

The salary is based on job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of University Lecturer is placed on job demand levels 6-7 and University Instructor on levels 5-6. In addition, employees receive performance-based salary.
