Summary

One (1) position is being filled on the Sequoia National Forest in Springville, CA and one (1) position is being filled on the San Bernardino National Forest in San Bernardino, CA.

These positions serve as hydrologist on a Forest Service unit with responsibility for conducting and interpreting hydrologic surveys and analysis, watershed rehabilitation and management planning, and providing technical guidance within the framework of multiple-use management of forest and range lands.

Responsibilities

  • Duties listed are at the full performance level GS-11.
  • Participates in hydrologic investigations and studies required for planning and design of multi-purpose projects, such as collecting ground water data and analyzing trends; analyzing and interpreting stream flow data.
  • Independently studies water resources data needed to support the Forest?s position during negotiations and litigation.
  • Compile information from investigations and studies into long range prescriptions or plans for management’s use in watershed management and/or water yield improvement.
  • Develop reports from studies that reflect technical adequacy, fulfillment of objectives, and compliance with policy.
  • Serve as a project leader for water-quality focused special uses projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of discovery requests including responding to interrogatories, admissions, and document productions.
  • Analyze data to determine hydrologic and sediment transport characteristics including quantity, quality, and distribution over time and area.
  • Analyze watershed condition classification indicator data to identify trends to meet Forest Plan standards .
  • Consult with other specialists in assessing the impacts of proposed programs and projects on watershed values.
  • Exchange technical and operational information with other hydrologists, specialists, special interest groups and/or the general public.
  • Provide professional hydrologic input into the development of the units plan.
